Advanced Emt And Working In The Hospital…?

By CNAGuide

Hi, I have just my written portion left before completing certification as a EMT B. I have been involved with EMS as a first responder for almost a year. I am starting a job at the hospital as a Sterile Processing Tech. The hospital runs an ambulance service and is always interested for individuals to work per diem. However, they prefer certification above EMT B.
I never considered my EMT training as something like to work as. I enjoy just volunteering. However, the AEMT involves more patient access and expanding upon opportunities in the hospital.
As a AEMT two part question can training you received be used elsewhere in a healthcare setting?
Can being certified as a AEMT allow you to work as a Medical Assistant, CNA, PCT, Nurses Aide, or Nurses Assistant?
Appreciate the feedback

    No.
AEMT and MA/CNA/PCT have very little in common. AEMT is meant for prehospital first aid. In most states you would not even be allowed to challenge the CNA which is the basis for the PCT. Federal regulations require proof of the CNA for some work areas of the hospital which is why they have national registry. In your state it takes 100 hours of training to be a CNA and the exam includes a skills competency. The PCT is 300+ hours more. If you want to be a CNA or PCT, get the proper patient care training or you will be doing a disservice to the patients and anyone else who has to work with you.
If you want to work in the hospital setting, get a certificate or a license that is recognized by the hospital. If you want to work only on the ambulance, stick with the AEMT and go for Paramedic..
