Best Career You Can Get With Short Term Training?
I am trying to help a friend transition into a new job in a short amount of time. This person tends not to do well in school and works better in academic programs where he only has to focus on one thing at a time. I am a CNA but I don’t think my friend is cut out for the work I do. I want to help find my friend a program that is short-term (no more than 9 months) yet, pays well ($11 and up per hour) and is a “stable” career type (easy to find jobs in and has good hours) without the program itself being too expensive. I have some ideas that I think would be good for him but I would like some second opinions and possibly some more ideas to add to my list. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
My ideas:
Phlebotomist
What I have heard:about 3 months training, starts at $12/per hour in my state, stable job
What I am worried about: I have heard it is hard to find a job in this field
Medical Biller or Coder
What I have heard:Average 6 months training, pays well and there is a lot of opportunity in this field
What I am worried about: I have heard that most places won’t hire without experience
EMT
What I have heard:Training length varies, decent pay and room for growth
What I am worried about: Amount of jobs avalible
Some other ideas that I don’t know much about but are thinking about suggesting:
Pharmacy Tech
dental assistant
dental hygienist

Dental hygiene training is really not that short term & you have to get really good grades in chemistry, anatomy 1&2 and biology & micro to get in. It really equals about 4 years- same classes are needed that are needed to get into a RN program. There are no dental hygiene programs under 2 years once you are done with pre-reqs. I’d think that dental assisting or pharmacy tech would be good. I think the dental assistant I work with makes $20/hour. However there was a pharmacy tech in my hygiene class because she wanted to make more money. Great hours though for both! My sister is an optician & opt. Technician and gets $17/hour. She has an associates but some states let you do on site training. Also the front desk girl @ the dentist office I work @ makes $17.
If your friend isn’t even cut out to be a CNA… He most definitively wont be cut out to be a EMT
