For the past 15yrs. i’ve worked as a CNA/ LPN/ RN. I’ve worked approx. 7 yrs. in hospital and nursing home settings, and just completed 8 yrs. in corrections. I’m really looking forward to a different aspect of nursing but what is there? I would like to do something that wouldn’t burn you out so fast. I’ve thought that a speciality clinic job would be great because I would enjoy the hours and weekends off. I feel I’ve earned that for the past 15 yrs. of working my butt off. But I was also wondering if a travel job would offer some new light into nursing, but I wouldn’t want to be stuck in the same scenarios as above. I’m sorry, but i’m very undecided, or I guess maybe just “picky” at this point and just looking for some advice. Thank you to all who answer. Any great offers will be greatly appreciated.

I am 25 years old and I am currently a CNA. I went through the CNA program drug free, but afterwards I started hanging out with the wrong people, and well one thing led to another and I tried opiates (Oxycontin) for the first time. I definitely got hooked on them. I was using up to 5 a day for about 1 year. (I was not working as a CNA at the time, thank God!) Then I decided one day (by the grace of God) that I had to stop. So I did. The withdrawal was horrible! It made me never want to touch another Oxy ever again! I am currently 1 month sober. But here is my dilemma; about 2 days into the withdrawal stage, I couldn’t stand the pain anymore. The nausea, vomiting, headaches, body ache, restlessness, tremors, sleeplessness, anxiety! Plus the not eating was making me so weak that I felt like I was gonna pass out at any moment. I couldn’t take it anymore! I felt like I was gonna die! So I decided that I had to go to the Hospital. I had to tell the truth of course (Well, slightly). I told them that I had been only using for 1 month. They gave me Narco (IV) which is a form of Opiate and that stopped the withdrawals for about 4 hours. Then they gave me 5 Oxys to tapper off of. Then I was discharged. They gave me papers for help with Opiate abuse but there was no police intervention or anything major like that. SO is it on my medical history that I abused opiates? Will this affect me trying to get into the Nursing program? This is got me so stressed out! Like I said before, I have been 1 month sober and I going to counseling and all of that. So Please help me out guys. If anyone out there had been through the same experience or if anyone knows the answer! Being a Nurse is my dream job. I fell in love with it after being in the CNA program. I know it is my calling in life. I just am mortified that I have compromised my calling. );

Yesterday while playing beach volleyball i twisted my left knee. i felt mild pain initally but was able to bear weight. i used the RICE method and when i woke up called my DR he could not see me until thursday so i went to the ER after a brief exam i was told that i sprained my mcl. the PA said for me to ice and elevate with non weight bearing for 24 hrs then to limit weight bear as tolorated for the next 48, but i was told it would be ok to work. i work as a CNA and i am on my feet for 16 hrs a day. How am i supossed to work with limited weightbearing when my job requires consatnt weightbearing? What should i do?

I’ve seen so many coworkers in shitty relationships, such as being physically or emotionally abused (along with verbal abuse as well). So many of my coworkers end up supporting their men (I honestly think I’m the only one on second shift where I work now that isn’t supporting their unemployed man). I figure it has something to do with us being compassionate, or some crap like that but aren’t nurses also smart? Maybe I’m the only one, who knows. LOL. Seriously though, I’ve witnessed a lot of abuse growing up from my dad onto my mom, as well as being abused myself as a child and I guess that’s my main concern. How do I make sure to not attract losers like that as a nurse? (I work as a CNA right now while in nursing school).

I met a girl about a year ago at work. We both work in a large facility but not directly together. We’ve talked occasionally when time premited and a week ago I asked her out. We went to dinner and then coffee. The best thing about the date was the conversation. We both learned more about one another and neither one of us (mainly myself) made a fool of ourselves. She’s perusing a degree now and still working full time as a CNA. The date went very well (I thought) and when i asked her out again she seemed very excited.
So of course, I was too
Well, the night of our second date I called her. We talked for a bit and then got off the phone to get ready. Right before I left to pick her up she gives me a call back. And told me that she didnt feel like we should go out tonight. That she doesnt feel as though she should be in a relationship or dating right now, between work and school. I can understand that. And yes, to be honest I was a little bummed.
She apoligized several times while I reasurred her after each apology that it was okay and she had nothing to apologize for. She ended the somewhat depressing phone call with the age-old “I still want to be friends”, followed by, “your a really awsome guy”, and one more “Im just not ready to date” (maybe she said relatonship, my chest was still throbbing).
So, like most guys, I am confused by a girl (no offense to and ladies who happen to answer this, your advise will be greatly appreciated). She seems all excited (literally) when we talk. We get along incredibly well. And while I would love to tell her sweet-somethings, and that we could work around our hecktic lives… I doubt I really need to do that.
So what should I do? Do soothing words and actions that would make her not worry about the stress and excess of dating/a relationship really exist? If so, should I try them? How can I still talk to her, and possibly hang out with her without being that “friend” who remains only a friend?
Id appreciate all the help and advise I can get.
Thankyou.

About this time last year I got injured and was out of work for about 6 months. I didn’t have any sort of short-term disability because I didn’t make a lot of money and I really couldn’t afford it. Well, I’m hurting now. Due to this injury I’ve fallen extremely past due on 2 credit cards, my cell phone, and my car. Im struggling to keep my head above water but it’s still not enough. I only work as a CNA so I barely make enough to survive, let alone survive and pay back a years worth of payments and interest rates.
Im close to losing my car, my bank account is in the red and the sob story goes on.
I want to fix this, I want to be normal and I want to have breathing room in my finances again. What are my options? What can I do? Im only 23, I don’t want to start my life with this over my head.
And please, no judging, no telling me I bit off more than I can chew. Some of my financial problems were stupid mistakes, some were unfortunate events. I’ve acknowledged and admitted my problems, now I just want solutions.
