Difference Between Bls And Cpr?

By CNAGuide

Can someone help me with the differences between BLS and CPR. I’m a CNA working in a nursing home but wants a job in a hospital. Most hospitals require a BLS and I’m not sure sure if I can turn in my CPR as a replacement for BLS ….. Help me out here plssssssss

Basic Life Support is the level of care that you can provide someone who has had a cardiorespiratory arrest. It includes DR ABC- danger, response, airway, breathing, circulation. As part of Circulation you need to know how to do CPR, and know the correct rate and ratios of chest compressions to breaths.
So, CPR is the part of BLS. BLS usually means you have to be accredited- so you need to pass a competency test.

As far as I know, BLS is the American Heart Association’s equivalent to Red Cross CPR certification. If by CPR you mean a Red Cross CPR card then you should call the hospital you are interested in working in and find out if they accept Red Cross certifications and if so what level of training you need. If they don’t accept Red Cross then talk to the American Heart Association about taking one of their BLS courses and what extra training you will need. In a lot of cases you can take a shorter class to learn the additional information rather than relearning the things from your prior training course. Best of Luck!
