If you need to earn $300/month to take care of the horse, you need $10/day, or about $75/week.
Think of all the chores you can do on a weekly basis, and total them up to see how much that can earn you. Then think of all the chores you can do for neighbors. Do you have any old neighbors who you can mow or pull weeds for? Walk their dogs, bathe their dogs, etc? How about babysitting?
Come up with things you can do each day to make at least $10. Also, get together things you don’t want, sell them on craigslist, ebay, or have a a garage sale. Talk to the barn you plan to board at, and ask them if you can clean stalls for a discount on board. You will want to go out there all the time anyway, so maybe they will give you 1/2 off board in exchange for cleaning a few stalls.
Good luck! But don’t forget vet bills, shoes, etc also!
Be a groom.
No seriously, it’s an awesome way to get you out to some shows to see what’s out there, and it pays well-make sure you learn to braid and market yourself at the hunter/eq people. You’d be suprised to find out how many riders will pay to have their horse on a heavy-duty grooming schedule and who will bring their groom along so that they don’t have to worry about braiding, bathing, tacking.
Offer clipping services as well-I paid 150 dollars to get my horse body clipped last year and I paid another 80 to have it re-done later in the season.
Clean tack for money(20 bucks for a saddle is a good price, make sure you’re using glycerine, oil, and conditioner, as well as silver polish-scrubbing stirrup treads with bleach are a nice touch too)
Be an exercise rider if you’re experienced-you’ll get more ride time in-15 dollars per hour is a good fee to charge.
Or you can try and find a stable that will let you exchange barn work for money off board or free board. There are a few people at my stable that muck stalls twice a week and get free board.
clean houses! that works so great.. i only get like 12.50 everytime i clean.. and you have to clean everything good.. but.. by the end of the year ( if you clean four times a month ) you’ll get 600 $ !! babysitting is another option.. but i really dont care for human kids.. so i help at my neighbors place.. i take care/train little colts/fillys/yearlings + so thats another way to make money…but the cleaning thing works really good… all you have to do is get just 4 jobs at the most every month and you’ll get 600 $ if you charge ONLY 12.50.. they’ll think its a good idea.. and you could maybe try raising the price later on
