Although it is against the law, discrimination because of age is rampant. Often your resume will be tossed without your knowing it.
Two things you can do. First is to trim your resume to hide your true age. This includes removing items off your job history, you can usually delete those positions older than a few years, remove dates of graduation, statements of xx years of experience and replace with ambiguous amounts like 15+ years even though you actually have 30 years (you are not lying here). Take out experience on things that are old and give away your age. Secondly, government positions will not discriminate although your salary issue might not be met. z
