Interested In Nursing Question?
I’m confused as nursing and I am, is concerned, I love dealing with people and helping them with their problems and have an interest for anatomy. However people have told me if its not my “calling” then its not for me. I have 2 years of college(towards an A.A, 68 hours. I have various work experiences trying to find out what I like and do not like. There is a job opening for a Nursing Assistant that provides training to be a CNA at a nursing home, would this be something for me to look into? My mom was a CNA and really liked it however her co-workers weren’t exactly (law biding, and neither was the facility she was in, as my uncle is an assistant director of a nursing home in another state told us). My dad is a pastor, my mom was a CNA and I’m a waitress so dealing with people is something I’m very used to and love doing. I just want to try and see if I like it, but I’m tired of doing things of no interest. Can someone help, has any other nurses been in this situation

Absolutly! Do it, if you have a question in your mind, this is an excellent way to find out if nursing, or another medical career is for you!!! Yes, I would partly agree with your mothers experiences… but so what… there are a ton of great people that are CNA’s!
I always wanted to be a midwife, M.D. or a nurse. So while still in highschool, I became a CNA and have done it ever since. I worked weekend doubles through highschool and then nights while in college, and up until a year or so ago, I worked PRN, though maybe a shift a month through an agency. I loved it!!!! However that expeirence showed me that I did not want to be a nurse I wanted to be more. BUT “life happened”, partying, then a husband and 2 children kept me from medical school, so now I’m in Real Estate Management. But it is for sure a way for you to test the waters!! Go for it!
Go for the CNA. Try it out. See if you really like it or not. Not all of us find our calling before trying the job. The beauty of nursing is that if you enjoy CNA and want to move up, it’s only one year for your LPN. After that, it’s only one more year for your RN. Nursing is a wide open field and as long as you’re intelligent and caring . . . you can go anywhere as a nurse.
becoming a cna would definately give you a chance to see if you liked nursing. also most rn programs require a cna licencse as a pre-req. however, if you didn’t want to go through the trouble of becoming a CNA you could also shadow, or follow, a nurse around for a day at your local hospital. ppl say if its not a “calling” then its not for you because nursing programs are tough. it takes conviction and motivation to succeed.
