Is Nursing A Good Route To Take When Preparing For A P.a. Master’s Program?

By CNAGuide

I am currently working as a CNA at a local hospital and am also training for Phlebotomy. I’m a freshman in college, and plan to get also get my EMT certification and work with the EMS while in school. I would like to become a Physician Assistant, and am on the Pre-PA track, which is all the prerequisites I need for applying to a PA program. However, I am having trouble deciding on an undergraduate major to prepare for the PA Master’s program. At the college I am attending, they suggest that Pre-PA students choose a major in the College of Health Sciences. I have considered majors in Dietetics, Clinical Lab Science, Environmental Health Science, Health Promotion, Emergency Medical Care, but I think I pretty much have my heart set on Nursing.
So, my question: If I were to receive my B.S.N. along with all the prerequisites for PA school, would that be a good route to take? I figure I could work as an R.N. if needed while waiting to get accepted into a PA program. What do you all think? Thanks a lot! :)

I guess it’s as good a route as any. I personally found the clinical lab tech route a bit more higher level of classes, and well suited to PA school, but if you supplement the lower level nursing pre-reqs with more pre-med level classes you should be ok. (I was a lab tech, went to nursing school & then to PA school).

No, if you want to be a PA, then you get a science degree than get your PA (master level). If you want to be an NP, then become a BSN. PA – more or less medical training, NP – more or less nursing background.
