I can understand why you’d want to change your schedule. It’s simply not reasonable to expect someone to work all the time. There are a number of options you could pursue. If you try to work for another hospital or medical facility, they might be willing to pay for your education. I am not sure if this is common in your industry, but some employers will do this. They want to help employees become educated, especially if the workers are committed to the company.
Alternately, you could find a job at a place that’s more student friendly. Retail is a good option, as there’s a high turnover and they generally have lots of student workers. Some good options include Belk’s, EB Games, PacSun. These stores like to have younger workers because many of their services are geared for teens and young adults. There are nonretail options as well, including the local library and UPS. I’ve heard that the latter pays quite well.
Also, have you looked into getting work study at your school? Your financial situation seems difficult, so you’d probably be eligible as long as you have filed a FAFSA that demonstrates a low Expected Family Contribution. Work study is great because it complements your school responsibilities, and you can either apply it to your tuition or keep the money for living expenses. You might still need to get another PT job, but the hours are generally low (10-20 hours a week depending on the amount of your award). Talk to a financial aid counselor for more information.
For right now, keep applying for positions and explore your options. Continue to be open and honest about your scheduling constraints while emphasizing your hours of availability. You might have trouble finding a job at first, but you are bound to get something, especially with your employment experience. Good luck!
