Your current situation sounds as though you should be eligible for government job training. Contact the unemployment office near you to see if there are any programs related to nursing. Usually once you successfully complete the course, the school helps you find a job. Most of the jobs will be nurses aid or if your lucky practical nurse. The pay is not the greatest but should be enough for you to get a place to live and put food on the table. Once you establish yourself start your RN classes at community college. The cost is much less and usually the competition is not as stiff. You can apply for state funding or get loans, but keep your borrowing to the bare minimum as paying back student loans can keep you poor for a long time. If you do run up a lot of student loan debt look for a first job where they will forgive or pay your student loans, a lot states and the federal government have student loan forgiveness programs. Once you complete as many courses as possible at community college you will be eligible to attend any in state four year college to complete your studies. It is important to keep your grades up, so don’t take more courses than you can handle, a bad semester or two and your dream will be ruined. Although this is a very doable plan it will require a lot of hard work, long hours, and discipline. If you can focus on your education for the next 6-8 years you will have a good career waiting for you. Best of luck The PracticaL Mentor.

thats great you have youre GEd…thats a good start. you need to have a long term plan: Research what it taks to be an RN: Youre going to need money, possibly from Loans/grants if you qualify; you can talk to your local Education insitutions to see how you can go about applying. Realize becoming an RN takes at least 4-6 years of solid medical wrk with high passing grades; your sciences, english and chemistry will have to be outstanding.
Short term goals: should be temporary PT work in orde rto supplement whatever income youre getting; this will necessarily take away from study time and can increase tiredness/stress.
You just have to set realistic goals and be honest with yourself. Im sure you can do anything you set your mind to if you want it bad enough.
