Some Questions About Becoming A Cna?(please People In A Medical Field Only)?

By CNAGuide

I am going to start a Certified Nursing Assistant program soon and I was browsing jobs to see if there was anything I could do to get experience and get an actual paid position when I graduate as a CNA and a lot of the positions close by required “clinical experience”. I am planning on volunteering at a nursing home then maybe working at one after volunteering for a few months. After that, I was planning on applying for a job at a nearby hospital. Most hospitals require “clinical experience” and I was wondering if that term was vague enough to include nursing home work. Also, Can I count volunteering at a hospital as “clinical experience”? Should I fore go working at a nursing home and just try to first volunteer at a hospital then try my luck getting a job there? If not, what is a way I can get “clinical experience” without experience and get my foot in the door of a hospital?
I would like to work at a hospital while I go to school and my ultimate goal is to become a N.I.C.U nurse and I want something I can put on a resume in the future.
*On a side note: I also plan on getting CPR certified and BSL certified too to make my resume look better, is there any other certifications I should seriously look into? (I live in the Bay Area of California, I know location makes a difference)
Thank you for your time.

  1. .A.

I would work at a nursing home first. Hospitals (at least where I live) will not hire someone without any experience. Try working at a nursing home for about 3 months and then apply to hospitals. By the way, when I mean try, actually stay longer than one day hahaha. At a facility where I work, people tend to quit very quickly.
Volunteering does not count as clinical experience.
I mean you can get a job at a nursing home and while you are there apply to every hospital you can.
    Good luck!
