To All Cna’s: Do You Like Your Job? Is It Hard? Is The Pay Good? Are There Easy Transitions To Lvn?

By CNAGuide

I live in Los Angeles and will be starting a CNA course soon. I just wanted to get some feedback from all WORKING CNA’s. Any advice or comments are appreciated. Thanx!

i love my job. It can be very hard sometimes. Not only on your body but also can be emotionally draining. The pay is okay. I think they should get paid more tho for all the work that we do.
But it is a very rewarding job and i think its a good idea to work as a CNA or STNA before becoming a nurse becasue it gives you a head start. I don’t suggest this job as a career. The pay isn’t good enough for that and the heavy lifting can do a lot to you body. My back and shoulder always hurt. =/

I love my job. yes it does have it’s moments of up’s and down’s but it is a good place to start if you are trying to figure out where in the medical field you are headed. There are a ton of oppertunities open for CNA’s. Most of the stuff they will teach you in class will deal more with how to work in a nursing home but you are not limited to that. I have been a CNA for a little over 5 Years and I have worked in many different areas.
I started in the nursing home. I won’t lie that was some of the hardest work you will ever do as a CNA but I did enjoy the time I spent there. I have also worked in the hospital. While working there I had the oppertunity to work on different units, I spent time on the general medicine floor, the emergency room, post surgery and the NICU. Those were some of the best times of my life.
Currently I work at and Adult drug and alcohol detox facility in Arizona and again it is a whole nother ball game. I deal with people every day that are struggling to become sober again and I am here to help them start their road to recovery. I also work part time For a company called Project insight. There I work doing In home Health care for kids with developmental disablilities. That too is a very rewarding area to work in because without Aides like us some of these kids would miss out on the chance of a healthy and productive life.
My advice to you would be, when you are in class pay attention to things like the range of motion. The normal range in blood pressure, pulse, blood sugar and body temperature. When it comes to taking your state board test DON’T overthink it. Most of the questions on that test are simply common sense. When you do finish class and start working. enter the field ready to learn something because if you are willing to learn from your nurses, you will obtain much more knowledge then you thought possible.
Good luck to you. I hope this helps a little
