Common basic tasks may include any of the following: • Answer patients’ call signals. • Turn and reposition bedridden patients, alone or with assistance, to prevent bedsores. • Observe patients’ conditions, measuring and recording food and liquid intake and output and vital signs, and report changes to professional staff. • Feed patients who are unable to feed themselves. • Provide patients with help walking, exercising, and moving in and out of bed. • Provide patient care by supplying and emptying bed pans, applying dressings and supervising exercise routines. • Bathe, groom, shave, dress, or drape patients to prepare them for surgery, treatment, or examination. • Transport patients to treatment units, using a wheelchair or stretcher. • Clean rooms and change linens. • Collect specimens such as urine, feces, or sputum.[2]
A nurse assistant must also have a strong grasp of emergency procedures and be able to stay calm in stressful situations.

A CNA’s job is extremely difficult and physically hard. And you have to spend a lot of time covering your butt. And that means documenting everything you do or don’t do. A CNA has a hard job that can be very rewarding, but you have to be doing that job for the right reason…..the love of helping others. If not, than do not become one. Some nursing home patients are violent and extremely difficult to handle. A lot of them are angry that their families abandoned them there and take it out on you.
And for the amount of work involved, the pay is low. CNA’s should get paid more than they do….considering how much work they do and how often they get blamed for everything.

depends on where the CNA works. finish your class -the training will give you an idea of what to expect. start putting your application/resume me at hospitals & care homes.

its not really as bad as people make it out to be. The worst part about it is changing their briefs but you get used to it. I just finished my program in april. They told us not to accept anything less than 11 dollars an hour since you’re certified. You dont necessarily have to be a strong person they have gait/transfer belts that can help you lift them, you could have another cna help you, and they also have lift machines that will lift them up for you so those really come in handy.
