Why Do Parents Do This To Kids? It Doesn’t Seem Fair Or Right To Me…?

By CNAGuide

In the pet sections, you see a lot of kids getting on here saying their pet is dying but their parents won’t take it to the vet, and they want to know what to do. Majority of the time, there’s nothing they cna do but get it to a vet.
Or they put ridiculous expectations on the child in regards to the animal and threaten taking the pet away if they can’t solve an issue (fleas, but wont buy flea meds, expecting an 8 wk old puppy to be house trained, etc).
What is up with that? It just seems so cruel to do to a child!

Any adult who gets a pet and doesn’t accept full responsibility for it, is a fool. These are people who not only should not have pets – they shouldn’t have children, either. They’re morons, and they will never be responsible adults because they’re clueless.
These things can have two completely different results, depending on the children. In one scenario, the children grow up to be just like their parents (apple doesn’t fall far from the tree)….or, they may be so impacted by the event that they may learn from their parents’ mistakes, and grow up to be better people than their parents.
Sadly, no matter what the lesson is for the child, the impact of neglect on the animals is what bothers me the most. Animals shouldn’t be “experiments” for stupid people and their children.

A lot of parents expect more from their kid then the kid can actually deliver. These types of parents should simply NOT get their kids a pet, it would save a lot of hurt for the child.

As a parent I am constantly meeting irresponsible parents….and it’s not only with pets! Some parents never seem to send their child to school with the crrect equipment or money or forms….the kids are always worryng about things It’s sad but true that a LOT of parents put themselves before the kids…never put themselves out in any way to make sure the child is happy and secure.

Cruel to the child? i think the thing being ignored here is the pets! Its soo stupid how animals get dragged into human life. if parents are too snobby to take proper care of their pet they shouldn’t even of allowed little kids to have pets when they cant even lookafter themselves!!!

I think it has a lot to do with many parents being immature and foolish in their decision to allow the dog in the first place. Many parents want to be friends with their kids instead of being parents. When that mistake begins to become expensive, they start to resent it. I think the immaturity also plays into the parents taking on financial responsibility (the dog) that they cannot afford.
And the most common reason I think we see this on Y!A… the asker of the question is flat out full of sh*t.

    Yes, it is cruel.
I see the posts every day from people who post that their cat has been hit by a car and obviously has internal injuries and fractures, or has been poisoned, or is exhibiting symptoms of serious illness. The person asks, “what to do?”, the correct answer obviously being to get to the vet as soon as possible.
Sometimes the post is followed by more, more frantic, with people responding that they must go to the vet, preferably yesterday.
Then, the asker says that their mother or father doesn’t want to go to the vet, or said cat will “be fine”, or that they “don’t have money for the vet” (bet they have a huge tv, and a computer, obviously) and you find out that they are a 12 year old kid – watching their cat die.
And regard the other situations, those are the result of parental irresponsibility too. The parent is the adult and should have researched the suitability of the pet first. Further, when if that pet has behavioral problems it is up to the parent to find the solutions. Not get rid of the animal they never should have acquired in the first place.
It is very cruel to a child.
That is one reason my responses to posts like, “How do I convince my mother to get me a …” frequently border on the nasty. I am trying to avert a situation where a parent is manipulated into getting a pet for their kid when the family does not have the financial resources, patience, or brains to provide proper care. My other and more important reason is to prevent cruelty through neglect or poor care to the animal.
Yes, the child may be heartbroken. But the animal suffers and dies.
